Our slipcase and box maker toiled over several different prototypes for The Dark Man Artwork Portfolio before coming up with a design that would protect the artwork for years to come. The stack of artwork is nearly 1.5 inches THICK, so housing the artwork in a way that didn’t bend or stress each print was our highest priority, which is why it took three tries to get the case just right. We ended up designing a special two piece slipcase system that we’ve never used before and we’re thrilled with how it turned out. This will begin shipping next month, but you can see a few of the first photos below:
Here are some photos of the Deluxe Limited Edition and the Deluxe Lettered Edition of The Dark Man by Stephen King, published by Cemetery Dance Publications. Each copy of the Lettered Edition includes a hand-drawn Dark Man illustration by Glenn Chadbourne that was tipped into the front of the book. You can see some samples in this post. In addition, you can watch a very short video demonstrating how the Lettered Edition box opens in this post.
We’ve received the approval copy of the box for the Deluxe Lettered Edition of The Dark Man by Stephen King and we love how it turned out. I thought our collectors might like a sneak peek at a unique feature we worked into this edition that we had never tried before, so you can watch this short little video if you’re interested:
Although The Dark Man by Stephen King won’t be officially published until July 30, we’re already headed back to press for a second printing of the trade hardcover edition due to a surge of orders from retailers:
Last month, our wonderful printer called us about the arrival of the slipcases for The Dark Man by Stephen King, which had shipped to them directly from our slipcase maker.
They wanted to let us know that a few cartons appeared to have been damaged in transit. That’s not the end of the world, it happens from time to time, and the damage didn’t look too bad.
Then they called back a few minutes later because they realized that the slipcase maker had shipped three pallets… and FOUR pallets had arrived.
We hadn’t mysteriously gained more slipcases in transit, of course. The extra pallet was all of the cartons that had been ripped off their original pallet somewhere along the way.
There was much more damage than originally realized, but luckily, there were just enough extra slipcases produced so that all of the books in the 5,000 copy run of The Dark Man would have one… but it was close!
Our first copies of The Dark Man by Stephen King arrived today. We should have all of our copies by Friday and we’ll begin shipping orders next week. Here is a quick photo Mindy took this morning. You can click on it for a larger version:
You can read more about this project or place your order on The Dark Man product page on the Cemetery Dance website.
We have a secondary warehouse attached to our main office/warehouse space that we use for long-term storage and managing the bigger projects that require a lot of floor space. Dan took part of this morning to make room for the arrival of the trade editions of The Dark Man by Stephen King, which will be here by the end of the week:
We decided to try something a little different for the Deluxe Lettered Edition of The Dark Man by Stephen King. Each copy of the Lettered Edition from Cemetery Dance Publications includes a hand-drawn Dark Man illustration by Glenn Chadbourne that will be tipped into the front of the book.
To make this possible, we printed up special art sheets, sent them to Glenn in Maine, who spent about two weeks illustrating them, and then he sent them back. Now they’re with the printer, who will be carefully placing one in each copy of the Lettered Edition to make that copy unique.
I thought some of our collectors might like to see a few of the drawings so I scanned a couple of pages before they left the office.
